Teaching
As a teacher, my foremost priorities are to help students develop a sense of capability in their singing and overall musicianship, and to guide them to find their most rewarding path within the music field. I believe that confidence grows with competence, and my role is to provide students with the tools necessary to make progress towards their creative goals. In addition to supporting healthy vocal function and musical proficiency, it is my intention to help my students maintain a sense of possibility by offering compassion, motivation, and encouragement along the never-ending journey of music education.
I teach private studio voice and songwriting lessons. My vocal instruction is rooted in the Somatic Voicework™ (The Lovetri Method) pedagogy, which bases its instruction on using somatic awareness and aural discernment to build vocal technique based on the body’s natural function. My songwriting instruction draws on my experience as a composer/bandleader, as well as my degrees in Jazz and Contemporary Music, Linguistics, and Psychology.
I work with intermediate and advanced singers, including those in early stages of their formal music education. I specialize in contemporary vocal styles including jazz, rock, pop, R&B, and blues, with a concentration in vocal improvisation.
